Looks like I'll be joining most of you at the exact same start time.

124.3 KB/sec average time of uploading the past hour. Still slow with my connection but much more acceptable.
About 20 hours to go.... Them I'm sure I'll have to upload the next patch.

It seems by the time I've fully uploaded I'll be ready to start with the rest of you. Overall I would have been overly suprised if the game was good to go on time. With something his huge I expect the first month to be day in and day out with patches.

I was trying to get into their forums looks like they are down as well.

Yeh I couldn't into the forums at all since they went back up.

Currently running around the outskirts of Tortage, no lag... everything seems to be smooth as silk so far.

Tempest of Set, she's one hawt Stygian as well.

That'll be the third MMO I've had a Saraphim in, and the second one that's a healer...

Tempest of Set's sounded like one of the more boring classes to me.
Assassin, Herald of Xotli and the Ranger sounded really awesome to me.
Ack, I really wish I could play it

Congrats Saraphim, I'm glad you were able to get in and get your name. Question must you select two names a first and last or only one whole name? Also is there a letter count for names?

Personally I'm not worried about the names I've chosen for my characters since I always have original names. Too many times I've seen people pick names based upon some book reference. I always try and pick something based upon a naming scheme. So far it's worked for me.

Although I haven't tried it, I believe you can't have spaces. So it limits it a little to just a forename.

I tend to stick to a certain few names, this one being just a play on my real name and me being angelic... hoho..

Looking lovely btw, Tortage is packed and I haven't experienced any lag at all. But I do have a reasonably decent rig. My other half is playing on lower settings, no lag but not quite as pretty.

I got to play a few hours last night (got in at 10.30 pm) and made a Stygian Tempest of Set.

They seem to be a popular class, Lightning damage spells plus healing. I <3 the pointy beard.

I'm downloading SP1 for vista now and ordered a pair of cheap overclocked 3850's for crossfire goodness (720/1800's) because I cant play too smooth maxed out, and my 3870 is crashing in a lot of games now at stock frequencies unless I underclock it .

A new 3870 would cost around £120, the overclocked 3850's were just £72 each and are almost as fast as 3870's anyway.

My GFX card freezes up in both GW and AoC unless I underclock it from 775 to 750 Mhz. I'm kind of going to kill it entirely and get it replaced for a better crossfire motherboard (X48) lol. Staticify the ram modules FTW.

I got two of these:

My birthday pressant.

Man you must have a nice graphics card

Looking at the UI, do you only get to bring a certain amount of skills similar to in GW? Or do you see another separate bar when you hold CTRL or something?

Check the edits. I have a dodgy 3870 that needs replacing. Before it only used to crash in GW, now it is doing it in AoC too unless I underclock it.

Although it works fine under windows, it is dying in games. To get it replaced / refunded I would have to damage it some more because it would still pass the stress tests and be reported as not faulty in it current condition.

I can play maxed out fully with around 20 FPS plus 4x AA. I notice slight stutter, but it is playable. My CPU is also an E8400. I tried it at both 3.0 Ghz and 4.0 Ghz overclocked, and the difference in speed was phenomenal. It smoothened out like mad at 4.0 Ghz.

Yes the CTRL key brings upto 10 menus. I'm only lvl 5 so dont have too many skills yet, but there are lots of them as you progress. You can also put your skills on the right hand side as well as you can see. Its a good idea to put self casts and heals on the right, and offensive spells on the bottom bar.

The melee combat for melee classes works similar to 'beat em up' games. You fire of a combination of the attack arrows you can see under my character and they pull of spectacular special (combo) moves. Casters like the tempest of set dont get these combos, they get spells instead which work exactly how they do in GW. Tab cycle through enemies, click the button to cast, but they are interuptable spells like in WoW.

I would have liked a new spell system as well like they did with the combat, but spells are literally still point and click. But they are good and get spellweaving later on, which I have no idea about yet.

As I have said before, this is the best graphics card you can get for AoC for its cost of £72:

http://www.stuff-uk.net/?s=ST-CGAX-3852DDO

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143186

It will play it smooth as butter at a 1280x1024 resolution with the settings reduced slightly from maximum, and will still be playable at maximum with a good CPU but under 30 FPS.

Scan and Overclockers also have the powercolor one at £88, but the club 3D is cheaper, plus it has heatspreaders on the ram which powercolor dont put on their 3850.

Well I'm not as clued up on specs as Bhavv, but here's what I've got:

Running everything on max settings, no lag. Looks beautiful.

Intel Core 2Quad Q6600 @2.4GHz
2 GB RAM
Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS

I can run fullscreen @ 1920 x 1200 but I prefer to play windowed so I'm playing in 1600 x 1050 and it looks the business.

Yea get a 8800GTS if you want to play at high resolutions ofc

My suggested 3850 is just the cheapest card that will play the game well.

I went for the 3850's because I have a windowed side case and it will be full of copper bling bling with these 3850's put in lol. Huge copper HSF, motherboard heatpipes, and those 3850's for added bling.

8800 GTS would be good, but they would look ugly through my window compared to the 3850's I'm getting.

Lol, I have a windowed side case as well (Antec 900 Ultimate Gaming), but I don't care if it looks ugly as long as it works.

Yea I tend to pick parts based on the looks because my PC is literally the best decoration my room has and Im a modder geek. When people see it for the first time they are gobsmacked and say 'How much did you pay for that?'. It was initially expensive, but I am now filling it up with cheap but cost effective stuff.

It kind of looks like this without the side fans in the way:

Gonna be pretty with those 3850's i need some cable ties too, its a work in progress.

It already has new ram and a blue fan over them too.

If I buy standard cooled graphics cards, I always need to modify them later with new heatsinks, so instead of doing that now I buy ones that I like instead.

438 posts? Holy crap. When did this thread explode?

I dunno if I'll get AoC, since I'm going to college anyways, and MMO + College = Problem. But it looks like fun so far...
